3 Mild Aftershocks Hit Lucerne Valley
Three mild aftershocks of the June 28 Landers earthquake jolted residents in the Southern California desert area near Lucerne Valley on Sunday, authorities said.
The first quake struck at 4:49 p.m. and was measured at magnitude 3.0, said seismologist Riley Geary of Caltech in Pasadena.
It was centered six miles southeast of Lucerne Valley--in San Bernardino County--and 75 miles southeast of Los Angeles, Geary said.
At 7:31 p.m. another magnitude 3.0 quake hit and was centered five miles southeast of Lucerne Valley. Two minutes later, a magnitude 3.8 quake struck five miles southeast of Lucerne Valley.
