SPECIAL TO THE TIMES

The city Activities Committee volunteer drive will culminate Thursday in an open house at City Hall.

The group encourages all citizens who want to take part in civic activities--such as the city’s Fourth of July parade and golf tournament and the Lake Forest Days celebration--to attend the 7 p.m. open house.

Volunteers are particularly needed for Lake Forest Days, a new community event that takes place March 25-28.

“It’s important that we get people signed up now,” said Sheldon Zeiler, chairman of the volunteer panel. “Our big organizational push starts right after the holidays. That’s when we start implementing our plans.”

Lake Forest Days will feature a carnival and be a major fund-raiser for the Activities Committee. Other local nonprofit groups will be permitted to operate game booths at the fair, which will be held in a lot near Dimension Drive and Bake Parkway.

The city will co-sponsor Lake Forest Days and help promote the event. The Activities Committee will be responsible for financing the three-day carnival.

“It’s going to be a communitywide event, although we hope people will come from all over South County,” Zeiler said. “We really need people to participate in putting on the carnival and with other events we hold throughout the year.”
