Countywide : Board OKs Pact on CSU Development
As expected, the Board of Supervisors approved a long-awaited agreement Tuesday that clears one of the final obstacles for a public university to be built in Ventura County.
After a year of negotiation, the supervisors approved the document that spells out how the county will work with California State University officials and the cities of Camarillo and Oxnard to develop the campus east of Camarillo and north of the Ventura Freeway.
The Oxnard City Council approved the agreement Tuesday, and the Camarillo City Council will consider it tonight.
The agreement addresses such issues as the widening of roads, flood control work, and the laying of water and sewer lines to the proposed campus, which is to be built on 260 acres of farmland. The document explains how the agencies will work together and “sets the stage for a cooperative effort among all parties,” Supervisor Maggie Kildee states in a letter to the board.
“It’s an agreement to cooperate,” said Arthur E. Goulet, the county’s director of public works.
