SAN DIEGO : Son Held in Fatal Stabbing of Mother

A woman was fatally stabbed in her San Diego home Tuesday afternoon, a police spokesman said.

Cynthia Ellen Horton, 44, was stabbed to death with a butcher knife at 4:16 p.m. in her house in the 3000 block of Altadena Avenue, officials said. Two of her four sons were home at the time, officials said.

Horton’s 16-year-old son, whose name is being withheld because of his age, was booked into Juvenile Hall on suspicion of murder, police said.

He called police to report a stabbing at 4:16 p.m., the police spokesman said. Police found Cynthia Horton dead on the living room floor with several stab wounds, officials said.

Horton’s 11-year-old son witnessed the stabbing and was released to the custody of his father, said Lt. John Welter. Edward Horton was at work at the time of the stabbing, and her two other sons were at San Diego State University, Welter said.

The father and sons are staying with neighborhood friends as investigations continued Wednesday, Welter said.
