SIMI VALLEY : Boyfriend Arrested in Woman’s Slaying

Share

A Simi Valley woman was found dead from a gunshot wound outside her residence early Friday and police later arrested her live-in boyfriend on suspicion of homicide, authorities said.

The body of the 26-year-old woman--a waitress whose identity was not released--was found outside a converted garage in the 4000 block of Apricot Road about 4:30 a.m., said Simi Valley Police Lt. Bob Klamser.

Police were notified of the shooting by a man who lived in a separate room of the garage, which had been divided into four living areas, Klamser said.

Police arrested the 24-year-old boyfriend after he gave conflicting statements to investigators, Klamser said. The suspect has used the names Miguel Cortez Espinosa and Felipe Romero Sandoval, but Klamser later said investigators have learned of two other names used by the man, who police believe is a Mexican national.

Police also recovered a small-caliber handgun that they believe was used in the slaying.

Klamser said an investigation had determined that the woman and her boyfriend had quarreled Thursday evening.
