The Criminal Code (Cinemax Friday at noon). A 1931 Howard Hawks prison drama, starring Walter Huston as an admirable warden, and featuring Boris Karloff in a rare departure from horror pictures; Karloff’s scenes are quoted in Peter Bogdanovich’s “Targets,” in which Karloff starred.
Detour (KOCE Saturday at 10:30 p.m.). Edgar Ulmer’s 1945 film noir classic is a perfect late-night show, one of the most relentlessly intense psychological thrillers ever filmed. Tom Neal and Ann Savage star.
Raffles (AMC next Sunday at midnight). Delightful 1930 version of the adventures of the elegant thief, played to perfection by Ronald Colman.
