VENTURA : Outages Leave 3,700 Without Power

About 3,700 Southern California Edison customers in eastern Ventura lost electrical power Sunday in two separate outages in the same area, officials said.

The cause of both outages was failure of an underground connector, located near Henderson Road and Jasper Avenue, which joins an electrical line with a switch, Edison spokesman Tony Wilson said.

The first blackout occurred at 4:40 a.m., he said. Power was restored about an hour and a half later for all but about 200 customers who live near the problem connector, he said. Power was not restored for the remaining users until 1 p.m., he said.

A second outage in the same area occurred at 3 p.m. and lasted 10 minutes for most customers, he said. The same 200 customers who reside near the connector had to wait until 5:32 p.m. for power to be restored, Wilson said.

The area affected by the blackout was bounded by Wells Road on the west, Montgomery Avenue on the east, Telegraph Road to the north and Kennebec Street to the south, he said.

“When something like this fails, it’s like a short-circuit,” Wilson said.
