ANAHEIM : Law Would Restrict Security Firm Colors

Share

Under an ordinance to be considered by the City Council on Tuesday, private security guards and patrol officers would have to wear uniforms and drive patrol cars that are clearly distinguishable from Anaheim police uniforms and squad cars.

The ordinance specifies that at the least the pants or shirt worn by security guards must be “clearly distinguishable” from the navy blue uniform of the Anaheim police.

Private security vehicles would have to be a different color than the black-and-white Anaheim police cruisers and could not be decorated with any logos, insignia or markings similar to those found on police vehicles.

Carl Stumph, director of security for Anaheim-based Bonafide Security Service, said that while such an ordinance would not affect his officers, who wear khaki-and-brown uniforms and drive Toyota pickup trucks, the ordinance would affect other companies.

“There are still quite a few mom-and-pop operations out there that still wear the blue uniforms and try to play cop by driving white cars with 50 antennas on top,” Stumph said.

The council meets at 5 p.m. at City Hall, 200 S. Anaheim Blvd.
