NHL ROUNDUP : Rangers Exceed Expectations, Storm Past Canadiens, 10-5
It took 67 years and 535 games, but the New York Rangers finally hit double figures in a 10-5 victory over the Montreal Canadiens Sunday night at New York.
“You don’t expect to score 10 goals against the Canadiens,” said center Doug Weight, who had two goals. “We expected a tight-checking, 4-3 game, but we got some good bounces and tips.”
N.Y. Islanders 4, Edmonton 1--Steve Thomas and Tom Fitzgerald each scored two goals as the Islanders won at Oklahoma City in the first NHL regular-season game ever played in Oklahoma.
The game, one of 24 being played in non-NHL cities this season, drew 11,110.
The Islanders, designated the home team, ended an 0-8-3 drought against the Oilers.
Quebec 3, Vancouver 3--Curtis Leschyshyn and Mats Sundin scored third-period goals as the Nordiques came back to get a tie at Vancouver.
