SAN DIEGO : 3 Get Long Terms for Violent Robberies

Three Orange County residents received stiff prison sentences Monday in San Diego for their convictions related to a string of robberies at Asian households in Mira Mesa.

Noting “the incredible viciousness” of the crimes, Superior Court Judge Michael Wellington sentenced the gang’s ringleader, 19-year-old Dat Tium Nguyen, to 26 years and eight months in state prison. He pleaded guilty last month to 21 felony counts involving robberies at five residences.

Nguyen’s gang, which was made up of Fullerton residents, targeted Asian-owned homes out of the mistaken belief that these families would be less willing to cooperate with police. Some of the victims were kicked and beaten by the gun-toting thieves.

Parker Isaiah Bixby, 30, was sentenced to 14 years and eight months in state prison for his guilty plea to nine counts of robbery related to two attacks.
