ANTELOPE VALLEY : Palmdale Leads in New House Permits

Share

More permits for new houses were issued during the first 10 months of 1992 in the Antelope and Santa Clarita valleys than in all of 1990 or 1991, signaling a slight rebound in the area’s depressed housing market, according to an industry research group.

Permits for new single family houses through October totaled 2,251 in the Antelope Valley, compared to 2,104 for 1991 and 1,866 for 1990. Most of the activity was in Palmdale, which had 1,269 of this year’s permits, according to the Burbank-based Construction Industry Research Board.

The Santa Clarita Valley had 603 new single family home permits issued through October, 144 in the city and 459 in unincorporated areas. That exceeded the valley’s 376 permits for all of 1991 and 591 for all of 1990. But permit levels in both valleys remained far below the level of the late 1980s.
