ANTELOPE VALLEY : High School Budget Found Shy $100,000
The financially troubled Antelope Valley Union High School District, despite laying off about 140 employees and cutting other expenses, is still headed toward a deficit by the end of the year, according to a new district report.
The Board of Trustees, in a report to the Los Angeles County Office of Education, said the district faces a deficit of nearly $100,000 in its $45-million general fund.
After discovering several years of mismanagement and deficits, the district had to slash spending by more than $12 million this year and obtain an $8-million county loan to stave off bankruptcy. District officials said they plan to study added spending cuts to reverse the latest shortfall.
