The city is looking for seven people to serve on the newly created Community Services Commission and needs to fill two vacancies each on the Planning Commission and the Personnel Advisory Board.
The Community Services Commission was created by combining the Recreation and Leisure Services Commission and the Community Affairs Committee. The new body will advise the City Council on parks, recreation, youth services, senior citizen services, cultural arts, grants and job creation in the city.
Mayor Don Martinez will appoint two business representatives to the Community Services Commission, and each council member, including Martinez, will appoint one more.
Applications for the positions are available at City Hall. Applicants must be at least 18 years old and be Stanton residents, except for the business representatives, who are not required to be residents. Applications should be turned in as soon as possible so that interviews can be scheduled. The final day to apply is Jan. 5. The appointments will be made at the Jan. 12 council meeting.
The Planning Commission now meets on the first and third Wednesdays of the month at 6:30 p.m. The commission reviews building proposals, considers requests for project variances, and makes recommendations to council on large projects.
The Personnel Advisory Board meets as needed to settle grievances of city employees. In the last six years, the board has only met two or three times, according to Darleen Cordova, the city clerk.
