‘Brownie Mary’ Won’t Be Tried
A district attorney said Tuesday he had given up attempts to prosecute an elderly woman who tried to ease the pain of AIDS sufferers by giving them marijuana-laced brownies.
Mary Rathbun, nicknamed “Brownie Mary,” baked brownies containing marijuana and gave them to AIDS patients in San Francisco, saying the drug helped relieve their suffering.
Rathbun, 69, became a celebrated figure in the San Francisco area when she was arrested in July and charged with two felony counts of transportation and possession of marijuana for sale.
