A 16-year-old Ventura boy was arrested on suspicion of vehicular manslaughter Wednesday after he lost control of his car while allegedly inhaling laughing gas and struck a jogger, authorities said.

The juvenile driver fled the scene but was arrested a short distance away, said Ventura Police Cpl. John Turner.

Linda Gabrielson, 52, was killed when she was hit by the car as she jogged on Via Arroyo at Longridge Court near her hillside home, Turner said.

Gabrielson, who was on her daily run when she was hit just after 1:30 p.m., was taken to Ventura County Medical Center where she was pronounced dead, said Deputy Coroner Zelmira Isaacs. She suffered injuries to her head, torso and lower body, Isaacs said.

Police located the driver and a juvenile passenger, whose names were not released, a quarter of a mile away as the driver tried to repair his damaged vehicle, Turner said.

The driver was arrested on suspicion of vehicular manslaughter, driving while under the influence of a drug and felony hit-and-run, Turner said.
