OUTLOOK

Opponents will do their share of running against Los Alamitos this year. The Griffins plan to full-court press and fast break throughout every game, and Ford believes Los Alamitos has the players to sustain that type of pace. “I’ve got about 11 or 12 kids who are all going to be playing quite a bit,” Ford said. “The depth is the best I’ve had here.” Leading Los Alamitos’ full-court assault is point guard Yamasaki, a two-time all-league selection who runs the offense and began the season with 123 career three-pointers. Yamasaki, who averaged 15.8 points, is being touted by Ford as an all-county player. Other coaches in the league agree, but they’ll also have to worry about McCullough and Mitchell, among others. Mitchell, a top track and field athlete, was ineligible last season, but has returned to add extra speed and quickness to the Griffins’ lineup. “Cavetra’s the best athlete in Orange County,” Ford said. “We can play at the pace we want to play a lot better with her in there.”
