Scattered showers are expected to fall throughout Orange County this morning, but forecasters expect clearing by noon and a cool, dry weekend.

The storm, which originated in the Gulf of Alaska, drenched parts of Northern California on Thursday, but by the time it arrived in Southern California it had weakened considerably, said Steve Burback, a meteorologist for WeatherData, which provides forecasts for The Times.

“The storm is moving inland rather than staying closer to the coast, which is why it is not hitting Southern California hard,” Burback said. “It should be over by late morning because it is rapidly moving south. It will be partly cloudy and breezy for the rest of the day.”

On Thursday, Santa Ana was the warmest spot in the county at 63 degrees. Anaheim, Lake Forest, Dana Point and Laguna Beach all reached 62 degrees, San Juan Capistrano hit 61 degrees while Newport Beach peaked at 58 degrees.

Today’s temperatures are expected to reach highs ranging from the mid-50s to the lower 60s and could dip between the mid-30s and mid-40s overnight.
