Share

Three Oxnard men were indicted on murder charges Friday in the shooting death of a Port Hueneme landlord on Dec. 1. The Ventura County grand jury indicted George Ignacio Pena, 23; David Lee Soto, 19, and Jose Luis Arreguin, 20. In addition to murder, they are charged with a special circumstance that the slaying occurred during an attempted robbery. As a result, they could face the death penalty if they are convicted of both charges.

The three men are accused of killing Richard Schell, 55, of Santa Barbara as he counted rents collected from tenants in Port Hueneme. They are being held without bail at County Jail and are scheduled to be arraigned Monday in Ventura County Superior Court.

A 16-year-old boy also has been charged in the case, and a hearing is scheduled for Jan. 13 to determine whether the juvenile will be tried as an adult.
