PRO FOOTBALL / DAILY REPORT : RAMS : They Have Game Plan Down Cold

Share

The Rams, who travel to Green Bay to play the Packers at Lambeau Field on Sunday, are not known for playing well in the cold.

But in their last four sub-30 degree games, according to the Ram public relations staff, the Rams have a 3-1 record, including their last one: the 1989 playoff berth-clinching victory on Christmas Eve over the New England Patriots in Foxboro, Mass. It was 20 degrees at kickoff in that game.

The forecast for Sunday’s game calls for temperatures in the high- to mid-20s at kickoff, falling into the teens and possibly single digits later in the day, with chances of snow throughout. It almost certainly will be the coldest Ram game since the victory over the Patriots.

The two Ram road playoff victories after the New England game--at the New York Giants and at the Philadelphia Eagles--both were played in 30-degree weather or warmer.

The coldest temperature for a Ram game at kickoff in recent memory was Dec. 26, 1976, when the Rams lost the NFC championship game in Minnesota to the Vikings, 24-13. The kickoff temperature was 12 degrees.

After that, the Rams won their next three sub-30 games: 9-0 over the Cleveland Browns on Nov. 27, 1977, when it was 24 degrees; 24-17 over the Dallas Cowboys on Dec. 26, 1983, in the first round of the playoffs, when it was 27; and the New England game.
