Fuming Over Roth

Share

As a fire captain with the Orange County Fire Department and a graduate student in public administration, I am aware of what constitutes ethical government. In my opinion, the actions of Orange County Supervisor Don Roth do not.

For weeks we have been reading about Supervisor Roth’s failure to report gifts and other political favors. However, the article on residential fire sprinklers alleges actions that are a violation of the public trust (“Roth Opposition to Sprinklers Sets Off Inquiry,” Dec. 11).

It is a known fact that fire sprinklers save lives--both the public’s and the firefighters’. One less smoky hallway a firefighter does not have to crawl down is one less chance that he or she may be killed or injured. By (successfully moving to delete the item from the board’s agenda), Supervisor Roth stabbed both his constituents and his firefighters in the back. Supervisor Roth should step down.
