Those claims that the Big Ten is the best conference in college basketball were ignored Saturday in Morgantown, W. Va., where West Virginia of the Atlantic 10 played a little bit bigger in beating Ohio State, 78-69.

Tracy Shelton and Marsalis Basey scored 17 points for West Virginia (3-2), which handed the Buckeyes their first loss in five games.

The Buckeyes, playing without four starters from a team that advanced to the final eight in last season’s NCAA tournament, were led by Lawrence Funderburke, who scored 24 points and had 13 rebounds.
