SANTA ANA — Five people were hurt, including a 2-year-old child and a pregnant woman who suffered serious injuries, when a car hit another broadside late Sunday on Harbor Boulevard near Segerstrom Avenue.
Police Officer Mike Kuplast said a driver in a Volkswagen caused an accident while driving south on Harbor Boulevard, then ran a red light and struck a BMW, shortly before 10 p.m.
The toddler and the pregnant woman were ejected from the BMW, and another adult in the front seat was injured, Fire Capt. Douglas Brocker said. The driver and passenger of the Volkswagen also suffered moderate injuries when their windshield shattered.
Police found a child’s car seat in the BMW’s back seat, but did not know if the toddler had been latched into it.
