Duke displayed nothing out of the ordinary Monday night against DePaul.

The top-ranked and two-time defending national champion Blue Devils simply shot, dunked, passed and rebounded with their usual aplomb during an 89-73 victory in the opening round of the Maui Invitational basketball tournament at Lahaina, Hawaii.

Duke (5-0), which extended its winning streak to 18 games, will play the winner of the quarterfinal between Louisiana State and Stanford in tonight’s semifinals.

Grant Hill led Duke with 22 points, and Bobby Hurley scored 19 points, 12 from three-point range. DePaul (4-3) tied the score for the last time, 26-26, with 7:09 to play in the first half on a basket by Curtis Price.

Hill scored off a drive 18 seconds later to start an 11-2 run, during which he scored the final four points. Kris Hill’s rebound basket got DePaul back within seven, but Hurley made consecutive three-point baskets, and Duke built its largest lead of the first half, 43-28.

No. 2 Kansas 84, North Carolina State 64--Adonis Jordan had seven steals, seven assists and 16 points to lead the Jayhawks at Lawrence, Kan.

Kansas (7-0) had a 15-1 run to take command in the first half but had to weather a second-half three-point barrage by the Wolfpack (2-4), who got no closer than 10. Migjen Bakalli scored 17 points for the losers. It was Kansas’ 11th consecutive home victory.

No. 6 Michigan 94, Central Michigan 69--With Coach Steve Fisher attending his father’s funeral, the Wolverines (6-1) rolled to victory at Ann Arbor, Mich.

Central Michigan (2-4) has not beaten Michigan since 1951.

No. 8 Iowa 103, Eastern Michigan 66--The Hawkeyes’ front-court trio of Acie Earl, Chris Street and Jay Webb combined for 57 points in the semifinals of the San Juan Shootout in Puerto Rico.

Street scored 21 points, and Webb and Earl each had 18 for the Hawkeyes (7-0). Ellery Morgan scored 21 points for Eastern Michigan (4-4).

Brigham Young 76, No. 9 Oklahoma 75--The Cougars’ Kevin Nixon rebounded a missed three-point shot and made a fallaway jump shot from the foul line with a second to play in the opening round of the Maui Invitational.

BYU (6-1) trailed by 15 points with 12:40 to play and was still down, 75-71, with 30 seconds left.

Oklahoma (5-1) built its lead with defense, forcing 32 turnovers.

No. 10 Arkansas 123, Jackson State 76--Darrell Hawkins and Scotty Thurman each played only 20 minutes, but they combined for 38 points to lead the Razorbacks at Pine Bluff, Ark.

Arkansas (6-0) forced 29 turnovers by Jackson State (2-5), which led to several easy baskets.

No. 17 Nebraska 116, Texas Arlington 95--At Lincoln, Neb., the Cornhuskers registered the second-highest point total in school history, one short of the 117 scored against Harvard in 1989.

Nebraska (7-0) started the game with a 15-0 run, holding Texas Arlington (4-2) scoreless for almost six minutes.
