“Cease Fire” (1985), directed by David Nutter. 97 minutes. Rated R. Don Johnson gives a fine performance in this low-budget but powerful drama about a jobless Vietnam veteran whose long-buried war experiences finally rage into his everyday life.

“The Moderns” (1988), directed by Alan Rudolph. 127 minutes. Not rated. One of Rudolph’s overlooked gems is set in Paris during the 1920s and follows the escapades of an American artist (Keith Carradine) who gets involved in a forgery scheme. This intriguing tale of romance, duplicity, gallantry and greed, is also an incisive and sometimes scathing commentary of the art world.
