Board to Unveil Future Schools’ Plan

Two special public meetings have been scheduled next month to unveil Capistrano 2000, a master plan considered the prototype for the schools of the future in the Capistrano Unified School District.

The meetings will be held at 6:30 p.m. Jan. 25 at San Clemente High School and on Jan. 26 at Fred Newhart Middle School in Mission Viejo. The school board will hear presentations, receive public input and discuss the plans at both meetings.

Both meetings come nearly one year after the district conducted a series of town hall forums on the master plan. In the course of a year, about 600 people were involved in 14 committees to devise a blueprint for Capistrano 2000, said Jacqueline Price, a district spokeswoman.

“We want to take this back to the public in a hearing format to show them what the schools will look like,” Price said. “We’ve gone full circle with the process.”

The Capistrano 2000 plan is scheduled to be presented for final approval by the district board of directors on Feb. 16.
