Sierra Madre : Tree Recycling Program

Share

Residents can drop off their unflocked Christmas trees at the city yard, 611 E. Sierra Madre Blvd., during the next two weekends from from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.

The trees will be ground up and used for mulch and compost at commercial facilities, rather than being sent to crowded local landfills, officials said.

The city requests that residents remove tree stands before bringing them in.

On Jan. 9, residents can also take advantage of a back-yard composting workshop and buy composting bins at low prices. The offer is part of the city’s effort to reduce materials being sent to landfills and comply with state laws on landfills.

Beginning Jan. 11, green materials, including leaves, grass and branches, will be collected separately from other trash.

Residents south of Grandview Avenue are to place materials on the curb on Mondays, and residents north of Grandview will place them out on Tuesdays, in regular trash cans, not plastic bags.

Regular trash collection days have been changed to Wednesday through Friday, and a schedule for the city’s various areas will be printed in the upcoming community newsletter, The Wisteria Vine, which will be mailed to all residents at the end of the month.
