A Woodland Hills man suffered head and back injuries Sunday in a bicycling accident on a popular mountain-bike trail in Sycamore Canyon at Point Mugu State Park, authorities said.

Arthur Nissman, 54, was flown out of the canyon by a Ventura County Fire Department helicopter about 11 a.m. and taken to Los Robles Medical Center in Thousand Oaks, said Dave Heald, the helicopter pilot.

Nissman remained at the hospital Sunday evening in stable condition, a nursing supervisor said.

He had been bicycling with a friend in a dry creek bottom when his bicycle’s front wheel apparently hit a rock or stick, throwing him over the handlebars, Heald said. Nissman was wearing a helmet.

The accident was reported to authorities about 10:40 a.m., Heald said; rescuers arrived on the scene about 10 minutes later.
