Bail Cut for Man Exonerated in Arson

A Ventura County judge ordered bail reduced from $50,000 to $5,000 for a Newbury Park man who was exonerated in the arson of a Thousand Oaks comic book store.

Superior Court Judge Allan Steele ordered the bail reduction for Christopher Nagano, 20, who had been charged with arson in the Sept. 18 fire at the Heroes and Legends store, until the county grand jury refused to indict Nagano on the charge last week.

However, Nagano still faces indictment charges of receiving stolen property and possession of a machine gun, stemming from the discovery of an allegedly stolen pistol and a semiautomatic rifle in a car in which Nagano was riding.

Nagano is already free on a $50,000 bond.

But the reduction will free his parents of the financial burden of having their Thousand Oaks home posted as collateral for that bond, which was purchased from a bail bondsman, said Louis B. Samonsky, Nagano’s attorney.
