The half-clothed body of an adolescent girl was discovered Tuesday in a vacant apartment near the USC campus and a man was being questioned in her death, Los Angeles police said.

The landlady of the fourplex, in the 600 block of West 30th Street, said her husband discovered the girl’s body while clearing weeds on one side of the frame house.

Orine LaFayette said her husband, Curtis, noticed a screen was ajar, peeked inside and saw the body slumped over a bed.

She said the unit had been vacant for at least a year but added that neither she nor the neighbors had noticed any activity there during the past few days.

Detective Lt. Victor Guzman said the girl apparently was killed inside the apartment. He would not elaborate on the identity of the suspect. The victim’s identity was being withheld until her family is notified.
