LOS ANGELES : Katz Asks Clinton to Order Correction of Census Data
State Assemblyman Richard Katz (D-Panorama City) called on President-elect Bill Clinton on Friday to force the U.S. Census Bureau to adjust its population data to reflect an undercount during the 1990 census in large cities such as Los Angeles.
Katz, a candidate for mayor, also introduced an Assembly resolution urging an immediate adjustment to the numbers, which the Census Bureau acknowledges did not include an estimated 200,000 Los Angeles residents. The bureau announced last week that it would not use the results of its post-enumeration survey in the population updates that are issued every year until the next census in the year 2000.
“Cities need more than rhetoric to restore their vitality. At a minimum they need an honest recognition of their populations,” Katz said.
