BASKETBALL ROUNDUP : Verbum Dei Downs Compton in Overtime
Ivory Burris and Jamal Cobbs combined for 51 points as Verbum Dei beat Compton, 93-83, in overtime of a nonleague game Tuesday at Compton College.
Compton reserve guard Johnny Brooks tied the score at 79 with two seconds remaining, but foul trouble caught up with the Tarbabes in overtime and the Eagles outscored them, 14-4.
Burris scored 29 points, and Cobbs had 22 as the Eagles built a a nine-point lead early in the third quarter. Compton senior center William Pryor countered with an inside power game and finished with 33 points and 14 rebounds before fouling out in overtime.
