Object Geography Lesson in Cabazon

Share

As the father of two children (kindergarten and third grade), I always read and worry about the problems facing our schools. I was particularly interested in the discussion about the Huntington Beach Union High School District dropping geography as a required course (“High Schools Strike Geography as a Requirement,” Dec. 10).

While returning from a weekend in Palm Springs, my wife and I stopped at the outlet stores in Cabazon. While in one of the stores we were next in line when the cashier, a young lady of 18 or 19 years, asked the woman if she would like to be on the store’s mailing list. The woman smiled and said in a heavy accent that she didn’t think the store “mailed that far.” When asked where she lived, the woman replied “Singapore.”

The cashier asked, “Is that in California?”

I’m really worried!
