Space Heater Causes Blaze in Mobile Home

A small electric space heater sparked a fire that gutted a mobile home in Newbury Park Saturday afternoon, causing about $36,000 in damage, fire investigators said.
Ventura County Fire Department Capt. Bill Young said no one was injured in the blaze, which began about 12:30 p.m. and was contained about 15 minutes later.
He said the owner of the 45-foot-long mobile home at 1200 Newbury Road told fire investigators that the electric space heater was accidentally left on in a back bedroom. No one was home when the fire started.
“Space heaters can be a terrible hazard,” Young said. “People have to be very careful when using them.”
