Smoke From Electrical Short Forces Evacuation of Hotel

Share

Smoke from an electrical short in a combination heating and air-conditioning unit triggered a smoke alarm on the fifth floor of the Holiday Inn Main Gate hotel at 1850 S. Harbor Blvd on Sunday night, forcing the temporary evacuation of the building, fire and hotel officials said.

“There was a fire caused by an electrical short” in the eight-story building, Anaheim Fire Department dispatcher David Paschke said. The room’s sprinkler controlled the fire within minutes of the 7:05 p.m. alarm, he said. There were no injuries.

“It was just a plug in a socket that created smoke,” hotel General Manager Robert Jordan said.

Fewer than 100 hotel guests temporarily evacuated their rooms and gathered in a parking lot while firefighters from Anaheim, Garden Grove and Orange responded to the location, fire officials said.

Smoke damage was estimated at about $1,000, Paschke said.
