He’s Donating a Lot of Dough

Tom Roach has hit the big time.

He wrote President-elect Bill Clinton: “Since Hillary has chosen not to stay at home and bake chocolate chip cookies for the inauguration, I would like to offer my product and services.”

Some free cookies and letters later, the San Francisco baker won the right to fly to Washington on Saturday to bake 15,000 cookies for the 12 inaugural balls.

Roach, owner of Tom’s Cookies, invented a new flavor for the occasion: peanut butter banana. The President-elect--not exactly known for his delicate palate--will be able to sample that, traditional chocolate chip and “caffe latte”--made of white chocolate and a dozen other flavors.

“I went nuts, I was so excited,” Roach said of the moment he learned he’d been picked. “It will change my life forever.”

Clinton’s inaugural crew offered to cover the air fare. Roach is donating all the dough and baking time of five people.
