La Puente : Park May Close at Night
Plagued by vandalism, La Puente Park will be closed nightly under a measure tentatively approved by the City Council on Tuesday.
The council voted 3-0 to prohibit use of the public park from 11 p.m. to 6 a.m. daily. Councilmen Joe V. Alderete and Manuel Garcia were absent from the meeting.
The action, if approved in a final vote by the council at their next meeting Jan. 26, will allow sheriff’s deputies to remove people from the park during the restricted hours, when much of the past year’s vandalism occurred.
City officials said the park has been marred by graffiti on buildings and play equipment and damage to the bleachers. City employees have also found people sleeping in the park overnight.
