WEEKEND TV : Countdown to Clinton, Super Bowl

Television begins its final countdown this weekend to the inauguration and the Super Bowl.

On Sunday, HBO will present the special “An American Reunion: An Inaugural Celebration for the People,” a free concert at the Lincoln Memorial in Washington produced by Quincy Jones. Among the expected performers are Ray Charles, Ted Danson, Smokey Robinson, Diana Ross and Luther Vandross. The show begins at 8 p.m.

Sunday’s National Football League conference championship games will determine the participants in Super Bowl XXVII Jan. 31 at the Rose Bowl.

At 9:30 a.m. on NBC, Channels 4, 36 and 39, the Buffalo Bills play the Miami Dolphins for the AFC title. Dick Enberg and Bob Trumpy will call the action from Joe Robbie Stadium in Miami.

At 1 p.m. on CBS, Channels 2 and 8, the Dallas Cowboys meet the San Francisco 49ers for the NFC championship. Pat Summerall and John Madden report from Candlestick Park in San Francisco.

Vice President-elect Al Gore will be interviewed on NBC’s “Meet the Press,” Sunday at 7 a.m. (4)(39); 8 a.m. (36).

And the public affairs show will make predictions about Clinton’s presidency and discuss the situation in Iraq and Kuwait.
