A 30-year-old Oxnard man was killed Saturday when the pickup he was driving drifted off a road in Port Hueneme and smashed into a tree, police said.
Robert Velandra, who was pronounced dead at the scene, died of neck and chest injuries, Ventura County Deputy Coroner Dale Zentzis said.
At about 3:35 a.m. Saturday, Port Hueneme Police officers said they saw a truck drive off Channel Islands Boulevard near Lido Boulevard. The cause of the accident is still being investigated, police said.
Norman Miner, 34, of Oxnard, was the only passenger and suffered minor injuries, police said. He was taken to St. John’s Regional Medical Center, treated and released, a nursing supervisor said.
