The Phoenix Suns couldn’t control Patrick Ewing. Charles Barkley couldn’t control his temper.

Ewing scored 35 points Monday, including three points in the final minute to lead the New York Knicks to a 106-103 victory over the Phoenix Suns at New York.

Barkley, upset over not getting a foul call on a three-point attempt in the final minute, went after referees Dan Crawford and Jim Clark when the game ended.

Then Barkley became incensed when Clark said he would be fined for his remarks. He tried to vault over the scorers’ table to continue his obscenity-laced tirade before being restrained.

“They can’t control me with money,” Barkley said. “I’ve got more money than everyone in this room put together. I’m entitled to say the officials had a bad day. Taking money from me won’t change that.

“It was a badly-officiated game. I missed 17 shots and I was probably hacked on 15 of them. Then I went up to take a three(-pointer) to tie the game and they hit my arm. I don’t shoot a ball 10 feet when I’m 25 feet away.”

Barkley had 27 points and 15 rebounds, but he scored only four points and made only one of five shots in the fourth quarter.

Ewing’s free throw with 51 seconds left snapped a 99-99 tie and his basket 29 seconds later made it 102-99. Barkley missed his three-pointer and Doc Rivers sank four free throws in the final 14 seconds.

Chicago 103, Boston 93--Michael Jordan scored 29 points in just three quarters and Scottie Pippen had 24 as the Bulls defeated the Celtics at Chicago.

The Bulls opened a 19-point lead late in the third quarter and Coach Phil Jackson cleared the bench.

Philadelphia 124, Orlando 118--Jeff Hornacek scored six of his 32 points in overtime and the 76ers beat the Magic at Philadelphia despite 38 points, 16 rebounds and eight blocked shots by Shaquille O’Neal.

Hornacek’s basket gave the 76ers a 111-109 lead with 38 seconds left in regulation, but Orlando’s Nick Anderson sent the game to overtime on a basket with 29 seconds to play.

Seattle 106, Utah 96--Gary Payton scored 20 of his 22 points in the second half, including a layup and four free throws in the final two minutes, as the SuperSonics downed the Jazz at Seattle.

Seattle improved its home record to 18-1, best in the NBA.

Karl Malone had 28 points for Utah.

New Jersey 100, Indiana 97--Kenny Anderson and Drazen Petrovic each hit two baskets in an 8-0 burst in the final minutes to carry the Nets past the Pacers at East Rutherford, N.J., for their fifth consecutive victory.

Derrick Coleman had 25 points for New Jersey. Reggie Miller scored 24 for Indiana.

Sacramento 111, Golden State 107--Walt Williams scored 24 points and the Kings got past the Warriors, who missed three free throws in the final 1:19 at Oakland and lost their fifth in a row.
