DANA POINT : Board Application Deadline Is Today

Applicants for a vacant seat on the Capistrano Beach Water District’s board of directors have until 4:30 p.m. today to file a letter of interest at the district office.

The current four-member board will choose a new director from the applicants to serve the remaining two years of the term of Ray Benedicktus, who resigned Jan. 5 to take a seat on the Tri-Cities Municipal Water District board.

So far, three men have notified the district that they are interested in the vacancy: Lynn Muir, a local architect; Leon Galle, a financial planner, and Ross Carpenter, who is retired. All ran unsuccessfully for the board last November.

According to state law, the board must wait at least 15 days after today’s deadline before selecting a new director. Then the board can either hold a special meeting to make the appointment or wait until its general meeting in February.

Director Bonnie Streeter said the board should appoint the new director as soon as possible.

“We need to get going and get this board seated,” said Streeter, who was elected in November. “It’s been two months now since we were elected.”

To qualify, directors must be registered voters and live in the district.
