MALIBU : Malibu Canyon Road May Reopen Today
Malibu Canyon Road, closed by a rockslide from Piuma Road in Monte Nido to Pacific Coast Highway, may reopen today, Los Angeles County officials said Thursday.
The highway was closed Monday night during heavy rains after a large boulder fell on the road in Monte Nido, midway between the Ventura Freeway and Pacific Coast Highway. Since then, commuters traveling between the San Fernando Valley and Malibu have been forced to use alternate routes such as Topanga Canyon Road, slowing rush hour travel.
County workers used dynamite to blow up the boulder, which was about 20 feet tall, 15 feet long and 13 feet wide. The boulder and other debris damaged the pavement, which workers hoped to have repaired by today, officials said.
