BOYS’ BASKETBALL ROUNDUP : Murray’s 22 Points Pace Fullerton Past Sunny Hills

Chad Murray had 22 points and 11 rebounds to help Fullerton to a 65-53 victory over Sunny Hills in a Freeway League basketball game Friday at Sunny Hills.

After leading, 30-29, at the half, the Indians (12-8, 3-2) outscored Sunny Hills, 19-11, in the third quarter to take control.

Three other Fullerton players scored in double figures--Ryan Hartshorn and Ryan Schatz each had 13 points and Gabe Viramontes had 12 points.

Mario Bertuol had 18 points and Kevin Garand 17 for Sunny Hills (6-12, 1-4), playing without injured center Gary Trendell.

In other Freeway League games:

Sonora 76, Buena Park 46--Chris St. Clair, Chris Campbell and Peter Lythgoe each had 14 points for Sonora (17-3, 5-0).

Troy 58, La Habra 44--Mark Stenner had 21 points and 10 rebounds to lead Troy (9-10, 2-3).

In the Empire League:

Los Alamitos 66, Cypress 46--Steve Carbone had 17 points and seven assists to lead Los Alamitos (16-4, 3-1). Bart Boulton and Robbie Walshe had 11 points for Cypress (8-10, 1-4).

Esperanza 72, El Dorado 52--Rashaan Clark scored 12 of his 18 points in the third quarter for host Esperanza (15-5, 5-0). Jon Simonsen had 16 points and Dan Watson had 10 for El Dorado (7-13, 2-3).

Katella 69, Loara 45--Benny Garcia had 23 points and Brian Carlson had 18 points and 10 rebounds for host Katella (14-5, 3-2). Scott Davis scored 21 points for Loara (0-5 in league).

In the Garden Grove League:

Kennedy 67, Santiago 36--Pat Kunz had 23 points to lead Kennedy (16-3, 7-0). Steve Davenport led host Santiago (1-6) with 12 points.

Rancho Alamitos 61, Los Amigos 56--Ed Taylor had 19 points to lead visiting Rancho Alamitos (9-9, 5-2). Jeff Martell of Los Amigos (4-13, 3-4) led all scorers with 23 points.

Garden Grove 65, Pacifica 53--Ray Green scored 16 points for host Garden Grove (2-5 in league).

In the South Coast League:

Mater Dei 89, San Clemente 57--Miles Simon had 17 points and freshman Olujimi Mann had 15 for visiting Mater Dei, the top-ranked team in the county. The Monarchs (21-1, 5-0) led 50-27 at halftime. Luke Mannix was high scorer for San Clemente with 21 points.

Mission Viejo 59, El Toro 38--Jeff Carr scored 29 points, making 10 of 15 shots, in three quarters for host Mission Viejo (9-10, 3-2). El Toro is 5-12, 1-4.

Capistrano Valley 70, Dana Hills 46--Todd Thornton had 19 points, including five three-pointers, for visiting Capistrano Valley (4-1 in league). Adam Lasnier and Bob Hefty each scored nine for Dana Hills (9-10, 2-3).

In the Olympic League:

Brethren Christian 73, Calvary Chapel 57--Andy Brown had 21 points and 14 rebounds for host Brethren Christian (12-7, 6-0). Sabe Younger had 20 points and Chase Lubbock had 18 for Calvary Chapel (7-12, 2-4).

Capistrano Valley Christian 63, Ontario Christian 48--Guard Troy Rodaramel led visiting Capistrano Valley Christian with 22 points. Capistrano Valley Christian is 14-3, 4-2. Ontario Christian drops to 3-11, O-6.

Orange Lutheran 75, Cerritos Valley Christian 56--Tony Risberg scored 21 points and Chad Reed 15 to lead host Orange Lutheran (9-7, 4-2).

In the Academy League:

St. Margaret’s 69, Cal Lutheran 48--Damian Raibon had 31 points and 14 rebounds to lead St. Margaret’s (9-5, 3-0). Matt Krug led Cal Lutheran with 16 points.

In the Metro League:

Colton Christian Center Academy 72, Pacific Shores 40--Chris Ross scored 16 points for host Pacific Shores (1-4, 0-2). Dan Wick scored 22 points for Christian Center Academy (5-9, 2-3).

In the Express League:

Heritage Christian 69, Rolling Hills Prep 46--Steve Acheson had 23 points and Brian Drabek added 14 points to lead Heritage Christian (9-1, 7-0).
