BRENDA STAR?: It’s been a tough winter for actress Shannen Doherty: The “Beverly Hills 90210” star ran afoul of the law in a scuffle last December outside the Hollywood club Roxbury, then got booed mercilessly at the Billboard Music Awards show a few days later.

Add to the list “Hating Brenda,” an album featuring rap, grunge, pop, techno, rave and noise songs, all devoted to trashing Doherty’s “90210” character, Brenda Walsh. The album, by the Los Angeles duo Rump, is due in April from Seattle’s Sub Pop Records, the launching pad for Nirvana, Soundgarden and Mudhoney.

The project is an outgrowth of “I Hate Brenda,” a special issue of the Hollywood pop-culture paper Ben Is Dead, published by Rump’s Kerin Morataya, 22, and Darby, 24. The irreverent tabloid is available in Tower Records and bookstores throughout California.

“We were obsessive fans of the show,” says Darby, who goes only by her first name. “And (Brenda) was so moralistic on the show, but off-screen you’d hear all these terrible things. We decided she has to be stopped.”

Doherty, currently in her fourth season on the Fox TV series, did not respond to requests for an interview.
