Baldwin Park : ‘Flyer Parties’ Outlawed
The City Council on Wednesday outlawed so-called “flyer parties,” large gatherings of young people that are advertised by posted handbills.
Police Chief Carmine Lanza said Baldwin Park is the first city in the San Gabriel Valley to outlaw such parties, which routinely lead to noise and violence complaints from neighbors.
Last month, two people were killed at a flyer party in Baldwin Park. “They attract hundreds of attendees and admission is charged,” Lanza said, explaining that for-profit activities are inappropriate in the residential and industrial areas where the parties take place.
The law, which becomes effective in 30 days, carries with it a misdemeanor penalty of up to a $1,000 fine and/or a year in jail, Lanza said.
