KCET’s Political Heroes, Villains

Back-to-back programs on KCET Dec. 30 said something about the politics of public television bureaucrats. At 9 p.m., a program (“The Restless Conscience”) rightly paid tribute to the German patriots whose failed attempt to rescue their country and the world from Nazi evil led to their torture and death.

Then at 11 p.m., “Hollywood: The Golden Years” dealt with communism, the other great tyranny of this century. That program, hosted by Ed Asner, celebrated motion-picture people who did not oppose communism but joined and supported it. In consequence, some of them lost their jobs and had to sell their scripts under assumed names. They remain heroes to the liberal media.
