The Doe’s Life Became Dear to a Hunter
It is very doubtful that you have ever attempted to find out why hunting is legal and why the state of California--or any other state--would allow law-abiding citizens the opportunity to hunt.
The simple fact is, as terrible as the proposition may seem to some who do not know any better, hunting is still the best and most cost-effective way to manage certain wildlife species.
Hunting may not be pretty or politically correct to those who buy their meat processed and packaged at the corner market, but no one has ever found a better way to get the job of wildlife management done.
If we didn’t hunt, as has been proven many times over by wildlife biologists and fish and game experts, animal populations would suffer far more than your errant storyteller Lancaster feels his unlucky deer suffered, the sad brown eyes of the wounded doe notwithstanding.
