Buffalo running back Thurman Thomas took a deep breath before he was surrounded by reporters and cameramen.

He knew he was going to be asked about last year’s Super Bowl when he misplaced his helmet and missed two plays in the first half.

“I’ve had to deal with this all through the off-season and training camp,” Thomas said. “But I think that it’s childish for Thurman Thomas to be remembered for that. If I’m only going to be remembered for not having my helmet, this might as well be my last football game.”

Thomas explained that he has a habit of taking his helmet off when he is out of a game and placing it on the team’s bench. In last year’s Super Bowl, someone mistakenly moved it.

“Yea, I think Kenneth Davis moved it,” Thomas said, joking.

Davis, who has rushed for 233 yards in three postseason games this season, is the Bills’ second-string tailback behind Thomas.

Aside from ending a two-game Super Bowl losing streak, Thomas has special motivation to defeat Dallas in Super Bowl XXVII.

As a high school senior, Thomas was recruited by Jimmy Johnson at Oklahoma State, before Johnson left to go to the University of Miami.

“If we win it could be a great pay-back,” Thomas said. “When he recruited me he guaranteed that he would be there for four years and then two weeks later he took the job at Miami.”
