What Lesson Does Video Shocker Teach?
I am a Vietnam veteran and not easily shocked. I am a children’s social worker at the Child Abuse Hotline and hear many horrible stories and am not easily shocked.
I was shocked to see the killing of Maritza Martin Munoz. But what really shocks me is the statement by Jose Rios, news director of KTTV-TV Channel 11, that “it was interesting because it was a part of real life,” “it wasn’t gory,” “it was a bit more sanitized.”
What next? A question was asked of a U.S. senator on TV once, “Have you no decency?” Perhaps that question should be asked more often by news directors and others.
