Pair Hit Crossing Street Flung 20 Feet
SANTA ANA —
A car driven by a 79-year-old man struck a man and woman in a crosswalk Friday evening, throwing them at least 20 feet.
Witnesses said the couple were pushing a shopping cart across 17th Street at Towner Street at 5:30 p.m. when the car struck them. One or both shattered the windshield, witnesses said.
Jose Tapia, 30, said he ran to the injured couple.
“They were both hurt, but the woman looked much worse than the man,” Tapia said. “She wasn’t moving at all.”
Both victims were taken to UCI Medical Center in Orange.
