Atlanta Olympic organizers Friday dropped their bid to add golf to the 1996 Summer Games.

The decision by the Atlanta Committee for the Olympic Games came one day after the president of the International Olympic Committee, Juan Antonio Samaranch, said he thought golf had little chance of being included in the Games.

Because of this, it made little sense to spend any more time pushing for it, ACOG said in a statement. The Olympic golf proposal called for the tournament to be held at Augusta National, site of the Masters.
